Wrightsville Beach, NC

Located just east of Wilmington, the town of Wrightsville Beach, NC, consists of a four-mile-long beach island, an interior island called Harbor Island, and pockets of commercial property on the mainland. Visitors to the area will recognize it as a filming location for “Dawson's Creek”. The movie “Weekend at Bernie's” was also partially filmed in Wrightsville Beach.

Present-day Wrightsville traces its origin to a land grant in 1725. In 1883, seven local men founded the Carolina Yacht Club, which is currently known as the seventh oldest yacht club in America. The town was formally incorporated in 1899. The history of the community has been shaped by many storms, including hurricanes Hazel, Connie, Bertha, and Fran.

Today, this seaside retreat is where wellness meets watersports, and where modern dining and beach chic shopping converge. The town was named as one of the best "SUP (stand-up paddleboard) hubs" in the U.S. by Outside magazine and one of the top surfing towns in the world by National Geographic. Additional attractions include an historic square, waterbird sanctuary, annual marathon, and internationally recognized surfing competitions.
